Don't you just hate it when you study really hard but totally bomb your tests? That's basically what happened with me; my calculus and physics tests came out so bad today Whyowhy

woe is me! there must be something I'm doing wrong Facepalm

Anybody else having trouble with their studies? Also while wee're on the topic, what's a good way to study? Does studying all the way till 3:00 AM in the morning help get more hours in (this excludes test days).

My current method is just to do every package the teacher gives you but he decided to pull questions out of the notes to rape us in the face (basically they wee're parts that were never seen again in any of the handouts); tricky teacher...

I'm sorry Tetris but I can't help much...
I never actually studied for a test and I have yet to fail one too :), Maybe study even more and block out distractions, that could help =/

Finding what works for you is the key here. When I want to learn something, I read as much as I can then watch TV. I'm not really, TV just give me time to think about what I just read so it can sink in. If studying until 3AM works for you then use it, I know this works for a friend of mine. Another friend has to studying in the morning so he can get the most of it. Try until you find what works for you.

I C'd almost every final except English. Almost failed economics test. O:

Try emptying your workspace and don't study in front of a computer or anything that might distract you. :3

RE: School, nyyygawwww
Personally, I'm a "last nighter" too, well, more, "last weeker" as wee get a week off for studying at Uni.

I tend to do like 30 minutes of revising, play 5 minutes of games (usually fighting games where you get to randomly button mash and bash up random things) and then repeat.  I can't go into the night - I stick to normal day hours.
I also don't believe in solid reading, rather, trying to do sample problems.  If they provide a lot, do some to get an idea of what you need to read up on.  If they don't, you're probably stuck on trying to memorize the notes (yeah, difficult).
But always make sure you do problems if they give out any, including sample exams.  Something may seem trivial when you read about it, but applying it can be different, and this is what you're usually being tested on.

Are you high school or uni?

Good way I guess would just be to keep up with all the stuff, and do enough questions to make sure you clearly understand everything.

Don't do nothing all semester and cram stuff last minute, that's not good.  (Unless you're in yr7 or something, then that's THE way to go.  Getting the teacher pissed because I used to just sit there and talk to people during maths, "if you don't do anything you're going to fail", then perfect scoring the test = best feeling ever, better than going high).

If you mean hardcore studying till 3am every day... You really don't need to be studying that hard... Unless you want that top 20 score in the country to get paid scholarship to study at Harvard/Oxford or something (in that case you shouldn't be here on the internet at all, unless you're searching up more maths questions to do).

Well, tests later on in school life (later year high school and uni) are meant to differentiate the best from the crowd, so ofcourse they're not going to be easy.  If everyone gets 90+, then the person who wrote the test failed.

(Tests earlier on in school life are to make everyone feel good... seriously, that's what they feel like to me).

RE: School, nyyygawwww
When studying, quality is more important than quality. Sure, you can study from 7pm through to 3am, non-stop if you wish; but chances are that you'll get two fifths of fudge-all done. What Zinga does, with his 30 minutes of walk/5 of game, is apparently close to how studying should be done.
Also, good 8-hour periods of sleep at night do wonders. Enough to rest you, not so much you don't want to get out of bed. (Well, that's just me. But 8 hours is what 14+ year olds should be aiming for, or there abouts.)

Also, some find doing something to be the fastest teacher. Like me. No point telling me all about code and such - I'm not going to learn it until I use it several times.

Also, getting a jump on the test is usually good- ask what sections of the curriculum are being assessed. No point studying probability if it's not being assessed.

"Books! I've read several on the subject!"

You can tell through my age, but yes i am in highschool (graduating this year) and before you comment on how it is easy; my physics teacher is one who teaches 1st level university physics. His tests include things that are not on provincial level (which is what it's name implies, province wide exams) and he goes above and beyond. He's an AWESOME teacher, but that can make your mark low at times, which basically bars you from getting into a university because your average joe just worked enough to the provincial level; whilst you learned more, you did worse as far as universities are concerned ;_; .

Thanks assassinator, best thing i could hear is someone strengthening my belief that what I'm trying to do now is right.

by the way, lol.

I guess you can say I'm hardcore, while i do try to go on the internet as much as i can (which, by my posts, you can tell I'm not a frequent poster); i am studying to get to a very high level. Bear in mind, i only started doing so only a year before; things can really change a person and imo, i can only say i changed a lot.

I've heard that from others before, but the suggestion that "you aren't good enough" breaks my heart and makes me go into a study rage (basically i work till i drop dead). You can basically guess at why i study so hard.

I did do all the problems...he took problems out of a brief explanation when he was doing the notes ;_; (which is basically, he DID mention and do such a problem, but wee NEVER saw it again until the test a month later). Anyway, thanks zinga; I'm going to try doing that now, thanks for the suggestion :)

Also, thanks to everyone who commented! i wish i could comment to all your posts; but i simply can't do so atm, but it's been a really big help! You guys are my only social link in life now and as such, you keep me from reaching insanity :) ( inb4 OH LOL HE'S A LONER).

Hey zinga, can i have my own blog? I think i can write some pretty awesome emo posts once in awhile :P (i joke)

I guess this thread helps others as much as it helps me xD; so it's useful...somewhat.
