Sad SOS - I seriously need help. PLEASE
I am like ohhhhhh no-ing . My computer is not starting. Here is how it happened:
I wanted to add a batch template to the new menu (yes I knew about TweakUI), but it wouldn't do it. Now I think I know why. I added under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT > .bat > ShellNew > FileName > C:\WINDOWS\SHELLNEW\BATCH.BAT - This is what I think caused the problem which is when I start it up all it does is show a blinking cursor. I need to know how to fix this and recover all my stuff - music, games, PSP themes (XMB+), school work - everything. I am like right now Facepalm and wanting to die. Someone please help me.

EDIT: I looked online and it seems that usually in some manner you could access the command prompt and access the recovery console, but all I get is a blinking cursor.

EDIT2: Found that you can use utility disks but I am going to need a friend to help me burn a CD or learn how to use a flash drive.

I am pretty sure I didn't have one. Wait do you mean system restore? If it's that then no. I think now I might be able to use the XP original CD recovery function (Press R) and then it will let me access CMD prompt and copy files from somewhere. Please tell me if I am going in the right direction.

Yes I know you could care less, but my avatar is actually a picture of my PSP.

If it weren't for Team-GEN the PSP scene would have died at a few months ago - Thank you to Team GEN for keeping it alive

RE: SOS - I seriously need help. PLEASE
Now I think you can use the XP disc to use the Recovery Console but it will give me an error since my XP disc is for the original while I need a slipstreamed version with SP3. Is there any way to run the SP3 Recovery Console on my version since without a computer slipstreaming out of the question.

EDIT: Wouldn't it be possible to use the CMD on the XP disc to run the Recovery Console on my HDD

RE: SOS - I seriously need help. PLEASE
If you use an XP disk you should be able to use sfc /scannow to restore system files, but i doubt that would solve it

My advice would be to download UBCD, load your registry hive into the editor supplied by the disk, and remove the entry. I'm assuming here you know how to do that, but if any of it doesn't make sense post back and ill advise you in depth

What is that under. I have UBCD 4.11 and 5.01 (I'm guessing). I didn't know it was even there.

EDIT: It's under NTFS tools just checked website. Going to try that first when I am at home.
If this works - thank you so much, gracias tanto.

And that stops you from starting Windows??

Safe mode wouldn't come up...
All I get is a blinking cursor. No prompts, no menus, no safemode, no error message, nothing (cries for hours)

Also I tried to access the registry editor today. It gave me access to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SAM, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System. The registry editor lets you choose where the registry is relative to the system directory. I need to know how to access edit HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT (or HKCR). This is where the keys I changed were. I need to know what to type in when it prompts for the directory. If I leave it blank it gives me access only to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Any ideas?

I looked at it again. It gives me this prompt:
Offline NT Password & Registry Editor Wrote:What is the path to the registry directory? (relative to windows disk)
[windows/system32/config] :
And then later on:
Offline NT Password & Registry Editor Wrote:<≥=======<> chntpw Main Interactive Menu <≥=======<>
Loaded hives: <sam> <system> <security>
1 - Edit user data and passwords
2 - Syskey status & change
3 - RecoveryConsole settings
- - -
9 - Registry editor, now with full write support!
q - Quit (you will be asked if there is something to save)

Although I have UBCD 4.10 and 5.00 BETA. The beta has a registry editor that brings up SAM, Security, Software, and System. I think I need to go under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes to access HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. I think that is what this says - not sure (Link) Thoughts?

Found that this is also useful: Link
