Upcoming product adds 3D capability to PSP
Quote:
You may like your PSP, but wouldn't you love it more... with another dimension? RealView Innovations Ltd. is launching something called the V-Screen in the fourth quarter of this year, and the peripheral promises to turn your system into something of a 3D experience.
"The innovation uses special optical components in unconventional ways,” states Eamonn Ansbro, an Optical Engineer who is co-Executive Director of RVI. “No software, electronics or headgear is required. Nonetheless, the optical results are astonishing.” Continued Ansbro: “The video game industry is a perfect fit for our technology. The V-Screen offers consumers a tremendous leap forward in optical enhancement.”
OK, that's from the press release, but when I contacted the company hoping for more details about how the thing works, I was told they're holding back information about the technology until September. They did send an image though, and I am sharing that with you right now.
Not sure how it works, not sure how well it works, not sure about anything, but it's an interesting idea. Wee'll be keeping our eyes on this one until wee have more information to share.

hmmm, that looks nice, lol

RE: Upcoming product adds 3D capability to PSP
Hmm, so you look at the PSP through that attached screen, projected like that? If it has to be held above the screen at a certain distance, it might be a little uncomfortable.
So this is meant to give similar results as 3D glasses?
If so, I'm surprised that just a screen, without supporting software, can do it, that is, extract some sort of 3D perspective from a 2D image (what does it do to non-3D images?).

yeah ive been thinking how will the manufacturer will make these peripherals, maybe they also do like the 3d glasses, will wait for this release, then try it out with my psp
ive search their website and i only see a one image page, lol

3D glasses work by providing each eye with a different image. Note that the underlying image generally has to be designed for 3D glasses to be effective (if you've tried those cheap red&blue or polarised 3D lenses, you'll note that there appears to be two images being shown on the screen if you watch it without the 3D glasses on (there are alternatives such as running the screen at double the refresh rate and glasses which separate this to make each eye see a different image)).
If this solution requires no software, they can't provide a second image, so it can't work through that method.
Hmm, is that thing connected to the USB port in that image? Reminds me of another issue - power - does it use any?

RE: Upcoming product adds 3D capability to PSP
hmm maybe its not the same with 3d glasses, ive seen their patent and they claim it to be Deep-Enhancing Screen
http://www.faqs.org/patents/app/20090097113
Quote:The present disclosure relates to a depth-enhancing screen for producing a simulated 3D image. The screen comprises a multi-curved Fresnel lens which when viewed in cross-section along the or each longest line linking two points on the edge of the lens, has a curved cross-section with an apex in the central region of the lens, and wherein each end of the curve flattens before it reaches the edge of the lens.

So this thing doesn't create a "3D" image, only make s 2D image look a bit better right?
