Fansub groups - what's most important?
Do you prefer certain groups over others? If so, why and what do you consider the most important?

I think everyone would go for a group which has better overall quality. As for release consistency & availability, do you watch shows because a particular group is doing it?

RE: Fansub groups - what's most important?
Video Quality and Timeliness from that list
Quality of translation i would consider important, but no so much so, since, as long as it makes sense, i don't know the difference so it won't be a cause of complaint for me.
I like things to be released as quickly as possible, but at the same time i would rather a slower, well done, good quality ep than a quick, crappy one. Sounds kinda hypocritical to say it like that i know, but bleh....

Yep,.. but its different when I set out to watch particular animes as they are announced...
e.g. when I watched several titles at Fall 07!
If I notice that a more consistant group picks one I'm watching up early on however, I am likely to go for them if I'm not too happy with the Subs I've been watching.
Another factor are Subs that I just PREFER.... FOR example, Star Fansubs releases of Bamboo Blade, I just loved theirs more than Doremi's.. such a shame that Star died towards the end of last year.

RE: Fansub groups - what's most important?
In order of importance
1: Quality of typesetting/styling. Quality of video/ download size.
2. Quality of translations. Speed.
Theoretically the translation should be extremely important. But if you consider that firstly, you probably would not notice any errors in the translation, and secondly, even if there is an error, it would not usually matter too much, and would not likely effect your understanding of the episode as a whole at all. So the importance goes down.... of course, that's assuming if the translation is relatively accurate, and at most only has a small amount of problems. If the translation is completely poo poo, and extremely inaccurate, then this would be far more detrimental than having poo poo typesetting or encoding.
3. Quality of the editing, timing, and Karaoke.

Don't know about the present (they probably improved by now), but in the past, like 2 years ago (Shuffle Memories), Ayako's encoding was like really really bad.
Why is g g still filtered to got to go?!?

No, I mean by stuff like text styling, and sign typesetting.
Timing is something else I missed, but generally of low importance (unless they suck THAT much, then it becomes a big annoyance).
Remember Sensei's experimental fansub group?
Original typesetting
I hated it, and typesetted it myself.

I'd say that falls under 'styling'...
