Congressman Wants Cigarette-like Warning Labels On Video Game Boxes
Quoted from: gamepolitics.com
"A California Congressman with a long history of targeting video games for legislation is at it again.
Last week Rep. Joe Baca (D) introduced H.R. 231, a bill which would require that warning labels be placed on any game rated T (13 and older) or higher by the ESRB. Baca's bill is titled "The Video Game Health Labeling Act of 2009."
Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA) co-sponsored the measure which would apply to both packaged and digitally distributed games. The bill has been referred to the House Energy & Commerce Committee.
As reported by the San Bernardino Sun:
While Baca has proposed several video game-oriented bills in Congress over the years, none have passed. Lately, he seems to have focused his attention on the ESRB rating process.
In 2007 Baca introduced a bill which would have required the Federal Trade Commission to report on the ESRB's effectiveness."

RE: Congressman Wants Cigarette-like Warning Labels On Video Game Boxe
terrible...there is more than video games causing the violent rage...lack of parental supervision/attention...lack of individual attention in school...ANYTHING but NOT violence in Video Games...If this is true, than ANYTHING depicting violence should have the same warning.
Ive been playing violent games for over 20 years and I will not kill a spider in the house (let alone a parent/sibling/friend)..instead i catch him, talk with him for a bit, if he can't pay first months rent up front, then i put him outside by a light so at least he can get some dinner later.
ANd then the new Mortal Kombat is FILTERED in the USA compared to the EU to have LESS blood and gore :( That's retarded because that was one of the big selling points of the original Mortal Kombat...the utter violence and graphic blood!
Maybe congress should spend more time concentrating on fixing the PARENTS of violent kids rather than sticking warning labels on great games.

RE: Congressman Wants Cigarette-like Warning Labels On Video Game Boxe
There's already enough labels on video games already
One can find out what the games about on the back of the box
or
if you can't read, there are pictures on the box that scream out
this has gore, sex, or whatever else there might be in the game
or
you can simply look at ESRB rating which say either:
AO (Aren't you too Old?)(Adults Only)
M (a Man's game)(Mature)
T (the Test to become a man of games)(Teen)
E ("Eh!" for anyone with a high pitch voice)(Everyone)

On the contrary, video games contribute positively to a person. Oh well, this obviously isn't gonna pass, anyway....

In Australia, ratings on games/videos are mandatory. Does kinda destroy the box art.
Do they already mention what's objectionable somewhere around the rating? Over here, it's something like:
M 15+
Contains Adult Themes

i agree totally. Pasting these warnings on cigarette packets didn't make much difference did it?
