well, in libraries the os is usually configured in a way that makes it impossible to shutdown the PC (which would be stupid to allow if you are hosting 4-6 people), and the PC is hidden away so hard-powerdowning it is also out of the question. linux is easy to set up this way

In canberra, that is never the situation.

Most computers in public libraries here are almost always taken up by stupid little kiddies playing their chocolatety online games like neopets and dragon quest, cause they're too cheap to get comps at home or something. Or little kiddies on MSN, or the previous 2 examples replacing "little kiddies" with "slightly older kiddies".

And that pisses me off so much cause it makes it very hard to get a position on the comps that i hope all the libraries decide to addopt Ge64's idea so i can shut down all these little kiddies and their lame games all at once.

RE: One computer per person? What for?
Our public libraries have a kinda system frezze like tool (i don't know what it's called) but u can fudge the system up all u like, and the next time u log in, it's back to the same state again, same programs, same everything, like as if nothing has happened. They use some tool to restore the PC to the same state each time it restarts or something.

So if i were to put CS on all the comps, it wouldn't be there the next time i log in. And if someone decides to watch hershey kisses at the library (hey, I've seen someone do it before, he was sitting next to me watching hershey kisses on youtube) and gets virus', then the next time they log in, the virus' will be gone also...

And...i'd like to see primary school neopet playing kiddies attempt to figure out how to start a game of CS, cause if they had that skill, then they won't be playing neopets anymore.
Double post

yeah, they only have like that much stuff installed on them, but that doesn't mean u can't play games on them anyways. I've played warcraft 3 on the library comps before.

And as for school libraries, they have piss weak security, and wee LAN UT and warcraft basically every week during luchtimes back then. That was good. Can't do it anymore now.

RE: One computer per person? What for?
Yeah, this isn't really news, but it's still cool. "Researchers" found this out? More like Linux devs.

Arrgg... Zinga and I have the same processor -- AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+. Mine's a socket 939, not sure about his. It makes me angry that it wasn't until the AM2 socket that Virtualization Technology came to play. That would be the one thing that I would want the AM2 for. When I was building my rig, the reviews I read about the AM2 socket and DDR2 support said that the performance gains weren't enough to justify the price differential.

When I was a senior in high school, I volunteered as tech support, and I can tell you that not a single person working for the whole school district was qualified to run a Linux setup like this. Not one. They could barely administer windows servers.
