What's with web installers?
Why do some companies like using installers where you download a small app which downloads the full package? I can see an advantage in some circumstances, where you only download certain components, but most of the time, I find that there's really no advantage. And then the disadvantages kick in - you can't distribute the package, to say, someone without an internet connection (or with a crappy one), and if you ever need to reinstall, you're going to have to redownload the whole damn thing again.
People trying to be annoying?

RE: What's with web installers?
I hate them...
Sort of like how world of warcraft makes you buy the game to pay for it monthly.
I hate world of warcraft too.

RE: What's with web installers?
completely differebnt, but both annoy me
I remember when i installed cygwin it gave me the option of offline, or online, but recommended the online?
Why, so if my connection cuts i can resume? What advantage is that?

RE: What's with web installers?
Maybe they purposefully make it so that you can't distribute it... So they can track downloads and such?
Yeah, it's pretty stupid if it's not something that you might need all the components for (like DirectX for example).
Oh, there's also your system not supporting it, so if you download the whole package, you wasted more time than if you just download the web installer. Or if the installer is different for different systems. But only a retard will download the wrong software package anyway (like download the XP version when they got Vista, or Mac), so that's not really that much of an excuse. Retard-friendly installer?
I don't like web installers much either.

I'll never forget the Orange Box experience..
Web Installers have one advantage that you will always get the updated software. bu that's about the only worthwhile advantage...

RE: What's with web installers?
I hate more webUNinstallers!!!
lots of bloatware/adware/spyware requires to uninstall you must download the uninstall script from their site, SOMETIMES they offer you to type in a reason and i fill it with profanities.
