Things that piss me off.
#1: Crappy software installed on a new laptop computer

So i got these new laptops, from Lenovo, featuring of course all this proprietary poo poo that enables stuff like all the function keys, has a backup partition, facilitates backing up and BIOS updates and software updates and all that stuff. I'm not even talking about all the antivir demo's etc.

So of course, when I get home and hook it up it's already outdated. So I run the software updater thing from Lenovo. It then downloads 800MB, i have no idea why it needs to download stuff as big as 8 modern operating systems just to do... backups... but fine, it's quite fast. Some time later it just tells me more than half of the updates 'could not be installed'. Oh, great. So a few days later after having had it lying around I open it up again and restart a few times, and run the updater. It tells me I need to update the updater, and it does. It then hangs. I reboot, rerun the updater. It downloads another 700MB of shit. Then when it's installing, this separate Installshield wizard pops up for one of the 'security' things, and i click through it, only to get to a page which says 'The following programs are using files that need to be replaced. Please close the following programs: ThinkVantage System Update'. You guessed it, I can't touch it because it's the one that opened this wizard, and besides, it still has some updates to install!

What the fuck.

Easy solution. Find out which version of the OS yoiur using, get a copy of it, and use your CD key to register it. a Legit copy of the OS without any of the bloat

RE: Things that piss me off.
why not just update what ever the problem is yourself?

I always have to take 20 minutes to install all the useless junk and files toshiba gives you with a laptop.
Other than that I don't really trust any updater oter than microsoft.

If you really still want to install that update, the installer probably just downloaded it to a temporary file directory. You can find it and run it from there.

if you need help, I'm here I'm bored. I'd be glad too.

find where the updates lie and run the installs yourself, then check for updates.

Of course it worked now, I'm just too 1337 and i pwn this laptop. Another installer I downloaded was about 300mb then simply said it couldn't find the files to install, i.e. the package was broken. That's equally stupid.

I also have a Macbook Pro and I had to keep watching out with fucking Software Update making sure it didn't install the Leopard Graphics Update 1.1 which crashed my pc all the time :( Not exempt

RE: Things that piss me off.
My solution - say that you have a download quota of something like 200MB, and your ISP charged you $100+ in "excess bandwidth usage costs" and request that the company pays you back for using your bandwidth. (or having hidden costs etc)

Meh, i bet it's in one of those eula's you always 'agree' to.

Meanwhile, I just finished setting everything up on 1 pc and making a (3) backup DVD, which I now booted to in one of the other laptops, which brings me to:

#2. Bloat

Why? Why does a simple bootable program, that simply takes files off your DVDs and stuffs them onto your harddrive, need to 'boot', 'load', 'wait for all system services to start'? As far as I know, system services are useful for lots of stuff, but not restoring backups. Especially when this process takes longer than booting Vista Ultimate on a 286 from a 1200 RPM harddrive connected to the printer port.
