PS2 Emulation!
So has anyone tried emulating the PS2 on their PCs?

Anyone like to share their success stories?

RE: PS2 Emulation!
My crappy integrated graphics doesn't support pixel shader 2, so i can only use the old graphics plugin, thus only got like 5fps.

But i tried it on by brothers comp, and can basically run FFX at around 15-40fps, turning anti aliasing and bilinear filtering off, frame rate depending on the area of the game it's in.

I estimate that on the PC, it would take an 8ghz computer to get FFX to run at at perfect speed (Brothers 4ghz ran at about half speed. PS2 emulation is solely cpu dependant, pretty much doesn't use gpu).

Now this may vary with what game your trying to run, some games are easier, but even for the easiest game, i seriously doubt u can play to on the psp, the processing power is just way not enough.

well
then they should make it use it
do you have any idea how powerful modern gpu's are?

"Solely cpu dependant" would be the wrong way to put it.

What i mean is, the gpu is way not as flexible in what u can program it to do compared to a cpu, and because the PS2 gpu is so different from a PC gpu, they cannot program the PC gpu to emulate the PS2 gpu, so currently only a very small portion of the emulation of the PS2 gpu is actually done using the PC gpu.

Basically, the cpu has to emulate both the PS2 cpu and a majority of the PS2 gpu, and coupled with the fact that a cpu emulating a gpu would probably be inefficient, and emulation overall is inefficient, u need an extremely strong cpu. Your gpu speed really doesn't matter, as it will be the cpu which is bottlenecking the overall emulation speed... well, as long as ur gpu is not TOO spoon (my integrated with power comparable to a geforce 3 does fall into that "TOO spoon" category.)

RE: PS2 Emulation!
I used ZiNgA BuRgA pops GUI and made a ps2 CD iso in to a psx eboot but it did not work.(I wanted to see what the psp would do)

yeas I see but then they should make the emulator compatible with modern GPUs.. if someone were to write a ps2 emu using CUDA it should be easy to reach 100%+ speed (but you would need a geforce 8 card..)
