processors have a clock speed set up internally that tells it how fast to compute, and that speed will put off a certain amount of heat
if your system is efficiently cooled, you can turn up the cpu's clock speed, it will run faster and hotter, it will also void the warranty (warranties are explicit about running it at manufacturer's specifications)
systems are more prone to error if you mess with a bunch of settings (cpu clock speed, ram... counts/timing? what's that called again?) but you can usually find a happy balance that is stable somewhere over the manufacturer's settings, and wring a significant boost to performance out of your system

it should be said that i have never overclocked anything, this is just my understanding of what goes on.

ok amzter, no more completely off topic basic questions for another little while please

oh - and the reason i was reading this - ive been running xp64 bit for a while now, like a year and a half/2 years, and rarely if ever have any incompatibility issues - most issues are small and fixes can be found, from my experience

but i imagine you tend to do more crazy stuff with your computer than i do bludevil :]

And yea.. the more you overclock, the more heat is generated.. so if you want to overclock you MUST know what you are doing.. or you jsut frying your computer alive.

That looks like jsut an edited Gigabyte board =/
P35 series..

Anyways, if it comes to overclocking.. ASUS would be better ≥3 and of course, it really depends on how cool you can keep your comp at.
I was thinking of using liquid cooling, then i can overclock a bit more...

RE: Comp OS Suggestions
The 64 bit Windows can run 32 bit applications.
Some "low level" 32 bit applications will not run (not many).

It's mainly drivers - if you can get 64 bit drivers, you should be fine.
