Mmmm, FakePork...
So what happens when a country gets hit with Swine Flu?
Well, no-one cares about the dying people, but, a much more pressing issue, the prices of pork go up, if it becomes scarce... or down if everyone is scared chocolateless to eat the stuff.
This is clearly a bad economical practice, so to make economists' jobs easier, these guys invented a wonderful wonderful thing.

It's known as "soggy pork" and sounds absolutely delicious, not that I have any intention of trying it out (note, no-one has actually tasted it, I think).

In a nutshell, it's artificial meat, which hopefully isn't prone to such diseases everyone gets afraid of, as long as the original animal from which the meat is cloned from is reasonably well.
Also, people complaining about cow farts killing the ozone layer seem to be enjoying this, since artificial meat rarely farts.
Heck, even the veggies like it since there's less slaughtering around the place (and I thought it would take more to convince them...).
If you consider the possibilities for the moment, it could even allow "exploratory" people to eat various other meats they probably would've never considered (want to try some Japanese whales?).  Unfortunately though, cannibals might be a bit disappointed as I don't think cloning human meat is on the table.

Of course, whether this soggy poo poo really does any good for you will depend on whether you would entrust your life in the hands of these trusty scientists, but at least it may solve the economic crisis.

RE: Mmmm, FakePork...
Read this in WIRED a couple of months ago.

My mum & sister are 100% opposed (because its "unnatural") but my dad is more open to the idea.

Obviously, if it was as soggy as "soggy poo poo" suggests, it sounds like wee'll just puke over it.

However, if they keep at it as well as they have and make it cook well.. then indeed, it would be a wonderfu, wonderful invention.

* Silvertie vomits in anticipation of "soggy meat"

Everyone just needs to harden up; cook their meat properly; and eat!

On a related note, NZ's having a small crisis based on "factory farmed pork", which is apparently unethical. It's unethical wee eat them in the first place, a little more ethics loss isn't going to do much more. Bacon For the win
