Which Laptop?
Right, I'll try to keep this short.

Basically me and my Dad have been discussing what machine wee want for the house. Wee want something movable so its a Laptop by default, but wee also want it to suit our needs, work, and creative wise, so I need to ask you, will this suit our purposes, or if not, what will?

Keep in mind wee're in Spain so Laptop availability is limited to an extent, more so in the UK.

The one I have my eyes on is this; (specs in english)

http://www.acer.es/acer/product.do?Langu...1402997576

(the CPU is 2.0GHz dual)

I know it can do a hell of a lot, but more specifically, will it handle software like Adobe Premiere and Reason (the music making software) well, I think It'll be fine with tablets and stuff naturally, but my Dad just wanted to make sure it has the power to achieve any creative prospect any one of us wish to pursue... :P

I personally like the spec, but I'd like to have your opinion (and yes I intend to run Win7 on it in due course).

Thanks EP- Sensei

RE: Which Laptop?
The link just takes you straight to the Acer Spain home page...

And to let you know I've run Cubase 4 (also a sound editor) with 16 reverbs and 12 VSTis on a Pentium 4 with 2GB of RAM with no troubles whatsoever. As for Premiere... It struggles. I'd expect a modern C2D to do a lot better than an obsolescent P4 though...

The products page for me. But that's not any more useful, since there's like 30 products on the list.

RE: Which Laptop?
Oooohhh... Pentium D... Seriously, if you can afford it stretch for a model with a C2D. Pentiums are olde technology these days. You'll see a benefit in performance, battery life and heat generation. Other than that though it doesn't look too shabby.

Where do you plan to buy from? The Acer website or a local retailer?

Would you consider a different brand completely? My experience with Acer hasn;t been the best (repairing friends' laptops. There are some major build quality issues in some models such as hard drives being held in with chunks of rubber and glue without actually being attached to the chassis in any way.)

You mentioned in your first post about limited availability in the UK. Does that mean you were planning on buying from the UK? If you are there doesn't seem to be much of a shortage of choice. If you can, take a look at the PC World website. There are some pretty good deals on factory refurbs there...

RE: Which Laptop?
I'm pretty sure that does have a C2D processor (T4200), just that Intel likes to confuse people and name lower spec'd C2Ds as "Pentium Dual Core".  (not sure about laptops, but they do this for their desktop E5xxx range CPUs; the Intel page does claim it to be a 45nm processor, which is pretty much guaranteed to be a C2D core)

That laptop has some pretty nice specs.  I'm guessing by "movable" you mean able to be easily moved around the house.  That laptop probably won't be too comfortable to carry around much (and the GPU might suck the battery a bit).
Otherwise, it's a pretty good laptop (in terms of specs), which I'd expect to cost a fair bit.  Should be able to do what you want it to do reasonably.
Can't make comments on stuff like build quality, heat issues etc though (you'd have to search up a review for that).

RE: Which Laptop?
I can't seem to be able to find the exact CPU model from that page... It just tells me "Intel® Pentium® dual-core mobile processor with 1 MB L2 cache" which doesn't say much at all...

As for the battery life, well, it claims to have an 8 cell battery, which should last a while.
