RE: No driver for USB hard drive
ZiNgA BuRgA Wrote:USB drive enclosures shouldn't require special drivers. I've bought cheap ones to expensive ones and use it as a portable device (so many different computers) and it always works :/ Unless you've stripped them from your Windows install, it should auto-detect.
Which device has the "?" next to it? There should be a disk device, and I think there should be a USB device too.
If the Windows driver search thing can't find it, you could try a fresh install of Windows and see if it detects it (if so, copy the driver across).
One thing though, if you're not going to use it as a portable drive, why not just install it inside the computer? Or you could use eSATA (faster) if you have a port on the back of the PC.
The only thing with the ? by is is "usb device", but mah usb is fine, I have two WD external drives hooked up via usb, my psp hooks up, my phone, and two thumbdrives. This is the only thing that doesn't register. My laptop doesn't see it at all, nothing shows in the device manager. I really have no problem blaming the hard drive for this, I've never used it externally, though I can verify that it works. I'm guessing if I format it it may work, but how to do this? Nothing shows in disk management. The computer definitely knows there is something plugged in.
Oh, and I planned on using it as a portable drive, something to transport with me. Mainly its gonna hold some music for mah 360 to play in game, but I'd like to have a small drive if I have to transfer larger files, this is small enough for me to slip in my purse and take with me.

RE: No driver for USB hard drive
If no comp recognises it, then yeah, either the enclosure or the HDD is damaged, or your system isn't supplying enough power through the USB ports (most 2.5in enclosures have some 2-way input cable so you can plug it into 2 USB ports for more power). Does the drive sound like it's spinning up when you plug it in? Or does it spin up, and sound like it can't quite get there?
