I tell almost everyone I talk to who is thinking about getting a PS3, usually worried about its cost, about this deal. This is for US only, by the way. It is a pretty simple procedure, but I feel like wasting time, so I'll make it as simple as possible, and make sure you can't make any mistakes by giving you a step by step. The provided link says you have to have bought the PS3 before 1/31/08, but this was the 2nd promotion they have had. They extended this promotion after it ended last September. Either get a PS3 ASAP, or take a chance and hope they put the promotion on again. It really depends on if they think the format war is over or not. If they feel it is over, they'll probably stop doing it. However, they may not want to give HDDVD any advantage because HDDVD still has their promotion which is the exact same thing as this promotion (5 free HDDVDs with an HDDVD player). Anyways, many of you probably already know about this deal, but for those of you who haven't...
Step 1. Buy a new PS3 from a store (not online), keeping the receipt
Step 2. Cut out the UPC Code on the side of the box (don't copy it)
Step 3. Copy your receipt or use the original and circle the price the PS3 was bought at. Make sure the date, store name, and price are all on the receipt.
Step 4. Fill out the following form:
http://www.bluraysavings.com/bluraysavings_usa.pdf Make sure you check the most expensive blurays on each line. I'll provide a list of them (the close ones will be given to the more likely in-stock one). You need to use Walmart prices. The ones in parentheses are the best choice, but they were either out of stock when I tried to order them or other people reported them being out of stock when they ordered them. I was sent other movies in their stead, one of which wasn't on the list and was not recognized by Walmart. So, be careful, as you may be making a gamble and end up not getting any credit and just get stuck with some dumb movie. These are in USD.
The Prestige 25.88 (Pirates of the Caribbean 26.87)
Full Metal Jacket 20.88 (Swordfish 28.99)
Stir of Echoes 29.99
Ultraviolet 27.14
Flight of the Phoenix 27.87 (The Omen 39.98)
131.76 (152.97)
Step 5. Send in the form with the receipt and UPC code. Allow 8-10 weeks (I know, but hey, you're saving some cash).
Step 6. Once the Blu-Rays arrive, take them to Walmart and ask for in-store credit. Tell them you don't have the receipt and they'll let you trade them in. You can do this 3 times without a receipt every 3 months, so it'll work.
I ended up only getting 87 USD because I kept my Ultraviolet Blu-Ray and the one Blu-Ray that they ran out of (The Omen) was replaced with Blazing Saddles, which was not recognized in the Walmart system, resulting in no in-store credit. I hope this guide helps some of you decide to get your PS3 soon and can save you some cash. If you get a 40gig, you'll be paying about 250 USD instead of 400 USD. Unfortunately, this is long term savings :(
