Right I have some bad news Propa.

I've been spending the past few days rebuilding and overhauling my server. It was on the floor next to me on is side with the panel off. I'd just put in a new 80GB 3.5" SATA drive to use as the boot drive. It was just laying on top of the chassis.

So there i was sat at the desk. I reached for my drink, missed and knocked my Leatherman off the desk. I watched as it arced through the air and landed with a terrifying thud and crackle on the drive's circuit board. The magic smoke escaped as I franticly pulled the power lead out the back of the server hoping I'd saved the drive. Unfortunately it's dead. I've tried powering it up but it just buzzes and gets stupidly hot. I'm just glad that there was nothing important on it except for a half installed copy of Ubuntu Server.

Unfortunately it leaves my server without a boot drive. I've only got connections left for a SATA drive so I can't put in one of the many IDE drives I have lying around. It looks like I'm going to need the 160GB Seagate for a while, at least until I can find something to replace it with.

Seems so. Onyl yesterday I broke my hifi amp somehow. It's been going stong since it was built in 1985 (it's a NAD 3130) then yesterday when I came home from work it sounded like cheese grated donkey. Opened it up, all the fuses were fine but there was a capacitor snapped off from the board. Couldn't be assed to do anything about it so I just left it. This morning now it works fine.

I love/hate electronics.
