I don't think it's that bad of a concept.
Granted, adds a fair bit of clunk just to satisfy gaming needs, but it does potentially get a reasonable gaming device in a phone.
(could also possible allow reduced reliance on the touchscreen so there aren't so many fingerprints, or for people who prefer button interfaces for most things)

...not that that was the first attempt to do such a thing.  Maybe it'll finally succeed?
