Cleaning PS2 Discs
Does anybody know any easy solution or method to cleaning scratched PS2 games? I'm trying to play GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas, but all of them are pretty scratched up and will freeze before or right after the game barely starts (aside from GTA 3, it works but is really laggy and shows a disc error a lot).

I don't have any disc cleaner and I don't want to go buy any. I've read online that cleaning the disc with toothpaste could help but that it could also mess it up. Any ideas?

P.S. Holy balls, GTA 3 just scared the poo poo outta me because it's been frozen for about an hour while I've been surfing the web, when all of a sudden the cutscene started up and the volume was pretty high.

screen cleaning wipes tend to work really well..... give them a go

I think some polishes work as well.  The idea is to try to fill in the gaps in the disc.

Also try dumping the disc on the PC and then re-burning it.  The idea is that drives may slow down on hard to read parts.  Also, if there's a bad sector that's not important, it'll skip that too.

gta3...lol i miss that game
rubbing compound if you want it to get rid of major scratches, but keep in mind rubbing compound is primarily a car polish that works by wearing down the clear coat so don't' over do it in any discs
