Two days ago, the SC2 beta was begun. The download client has been obtained from some of the lucky few to be placed in the closed beta. Now, there are attempts underway to crack it already. Personally, I can't tell one way or the other if headway is being made, or if this is all going to be a fruitless effort.
Apparently some tricks placed by Blizzard have apparently already been uncovered:

@too everyone keeping you guys updated, just like there prank to us hackers by putting some of there fonts in in random foriegn languages having a texts next to it saying 'TRANSLATE THIS'. wee have also found that blizzard has made it so that SC2 actually codes some of the game and login process Backwards. wee realized this after failing to debug a program several times after rewriting it, wee umcs decided to try it backwards off of a hunch and it worked. its obvious blizzard has forseen use trying to hack this program.
I would love to receive a legitimate beta key, but I want to play this so badly, I might have to cross my fingers for an alternative means of play...
Apparently Blizzard will be increasing numbers in the closed beta as it continues, which would be a good idea, if only to test Battlenet 2.0's capabilities, and to find the bugs even quicker (already lots of frequent crashes and discs everywhere).
