trademark91 Wrote:lol @ dell, eww at netbook. no offense to anyone with a netbook, but anyone serious about computers knows the netbooks are a joke. not even a cd drive! and the atom sucks. might as well get a mac. id say shoot for second hand, but buy from a refurbisher.
There's a purpose behind the design. And the purpose is to be portable, be cheap, be able to do all the normal stuff (browse internet, run office, watch videos... NOT play Crysis) and have long battery life. And the netbook serves it's purpose.
Talking about purpose....

Anything on Dell Latitudes? Yeah, it's a Dell, but they're fairly cheap, and some still come with warranty. What's the main problem with Dells? Locking the BIOS?
Actually, the only problems with Dell are 1) Its a corporation, so their policies regarding the hardware (like BIOS etc) and pricing are sometimes questionable 2) Load of crapware. 3) Pathetic customer care (I've heard... don't have any personal experience)
All the 3 can easily be bypassed by someone with even intermediate knowledge of computers.
Latitudes are actually good laptops. If you can get a latitude from the 2006-2007 era (I forgot the series... I'll dig it up), then you still have plenty of horsepower to overshadow todays budget to mid-budget lappys.
If you can find a D620, you'll be able to use a good latitude...

RE: How well do older laptops fare?
Thanks for that!
There's some cheap Dells around, though inter-bank transfers are a bit of a pain >_> (and it takes forever to get funds into PayPal)
