i know whot you mean,. but when i bought the 8800GTS is was the latest graphics card, and yes the price has gone down now since there are loads of new graphics cards now,.. but i am surprised the 8800gts still got good specs,. so i am not that bunped i payed so many $$ for it 10 moth's ago,..
I can still play Fall-out 3 full graphics settings, graphics cards below the 8800 will lack in difference.

with cpu's this might be differnet,.. since it maybe less feature based,.. cpu's is mostly about proccesing speed,. and graphics cards link with games that come out and new graphics feature's.

anyway whot i am trying to say is,. yes a payed alot for the 8800gts the top level price back-then,. did't expect the 8800gts would last this long keeping up with performance playing games,..

and i am only talking graphics cards,. not blueRay or cpu's,..

l0l.. I've read this discussion so many times at different places. The simple truth is that computer will evolve and become obsolete periodically... depends on which you are... an enthusiast or a consumer.

He means it'll be cheaper to buy in the future than to buy now. Due to both lowering prices, and time value of money (same amount of money is worth less in the future than in the present).

So pretty much he's saying that it'll be more worth it to buy it later on when blu-ray disks are actually affordable, than to buy it now and let it sit there and depreciate.

And I agree with him.

The same thing can be said about Graphics cards. Buy it when it comes out for $500, or wait 6 months for it to be $300.

HOWEVER, if you buy it for $500, you also get those 6 months you could have waited to actually use it.

Don't forget the Blu-ray burner is also a player. $200 for 1080p + Uncompressed audio is not a lot of money.

@Zinga- I don't know any PC current part that increases in value.

Well you say that $200 for the 1080p is not a lot of money, but if im happy with DLed HD, or normal DVD's, its still an unnescessary expense, and many people feel that way. For a lot of people, those 6 months don't matter half as much as the $200 do (in your example)

4GB doesn't imply you have to have 64-bit, though there's little reason not to use it (basically 64-bit gives a speed boost at expense of some RAM). I'm also thinking of getting an LG Blu-ray reader for two reasons: 1. Play Blu-rays and 2. It would use SATA.

With the IDE channel free, I can plug in some IDE hard drives I still have.

Yeah, as roberth and I said, it depends on how you value things. Here you can get a Blu-ray/DVD-Burner combo for around $100+, but a burner will cost you around $300+ - you're paying 3x the amount just for burning capability. As for 6 months of use - would you use it much during the 6 months, considering the cost of a write once disc?

Blu-ray reader would do the trick for a lot less... But if you can't be bothered going out and buying a second drive later on, then go for it.
