Well they are doing the Mobile Operating System -  Android..

But Assassinator is correct, it's much too heavy a load for them to do - Microsoft have been working with the same core for many years and been building on it.

If Google do any kind of System, that Operates computers .... it would be like Chrome - a n00b-friendly, ultra-minimalist thing like the Custom Xandros included with Netbooks.

At the present time, no.  But perhaps in the future, there's a possibility, assuming Gears can get a hold of the desktop environment.  If Google want an OS, that's probably what they'll try to emphasise.  Chrome gives an avenue through which they can boost Gears adaption...

* Lack of Publicity/marketing

No. Mainly it's not popular because if compatibility. Because windows stuff doesn't run on Linux.

Yeah that's the only reason I don't use Linux. If Linux could run Window based stuff I would move on to Linux without any regrets.

y'know, Wine hit 1.0 a couple months ago, and work is still getting done, they are making very good progress!
