I typically use 7z for archiving, backup and encryption purposes (cause there's a Linux command line compressor), but generally RAR for file distribution over the internet (people seem to be having some issues with extracting my 7z files for some odd reason).
I am a rar man.  For some reason I always zip when putting it straight to a friend's hard drive though...
7zip all the way.

RAR is the past. Time to move on. (RAR is faster though)
All of them really.

.zip and .rar for sharing stuff
.7z for storing it away.. ;)
I'm on ubuntu most of the time.. RAR isn't that great on linux.. 7z is. Hence I archive in 7z.. typically, share RAR. Havent bothered with zip in a long long while.
