I'm gonna try this, if it doesn't run great, I'll format partition and choose new distro.

You won't be able to get the liveCD version to work on that system, you need either the alternate install disk or unetbootin for an online install.

if you have a reliable net connection unetbootin is by far the best way to install ubuntu, you just download the windows installer then restart and select the ubuntu option from your boot menu, then follow the steps just like a normal cd install except it grabs the latest and greatest packages straight from the repository and lets you select what tasks you want the system to perform and what desktop to use.


EDIT: I've been thinking about this and you are going to run into problems running any standard distro on hardware that antiquated, you may be better off with a puppy linux version.

So, I should try a different distro?
I looked at some "Linux test" that found out what should be good for, it said openSuse. Would that be good for my hardware?
And DSL would work okay, wouldn't it?

Opensuse would take a couple of weeks to load. Out of the big, easy to use distro's ubuntu is the only one forgiving enough to run ok.

DSL will work fine.

lol. :P I said in the test thing that my computer was more than a few years old.
Gonna try DSL. Will tell what happens later.

edit: Okay, so I put in it and rebooted. How do I actually install it to one of my partitions?
If I can't easily, would Puppy Linux be another good choice?

By the way, I want to dual boot with XP.
