I'm getting a new desktop computer end of this school year as a graduation present my limit is about $2000. I need it for gaming and school such as running cad programs and photoshop also I want to be able to play games on it, so no macs. I'm thinking of getting a Dell XPS 720. I would like to know if any one has any other recommendations of something that can fit my needs and price range.
You should get a Mac
Simply install Windows XP using boot camp
But if you don't want a mac then...
try ibuypower.com
You can customize it and get greater features for less money then actually buying a premade one from Gateway/Dell.
newegg.com is also another site you should look at
A video card with GDDR3 Memory
PCIe x16 expansion slots
DDR2 memory slots
A flat widescreen monitor
A good, powerful power supply
Audio card (personally I'm not an audiophile so I don't really care)
At least a dual core processor
There are a lot of things to consider
Widescreen monitor? I prefer the "old" 4:3 one:
- More display area
- Majority of applications and games are designed for 4:3 rather than widescreen. I guess more games are becoming widescreen nowadays. And if you watch movies on your computer more than you use it for other things, widescreen would be the best.
:S Well, up to you.
For a good gaming PC, would suggest an Intel Core 2 based CPU, and a nVidia 8800 series graphics card. 2GB DDR2 RAM, harddrive - up to you, and a decent motherboard.
To get the most out of your buck, u should get parts and build it yourself. Also allows for best room for customization. What Zinga said would be pretty good for gaming.
mac and pc are the same now.. only difference is the OS... i don't like mac OS... just don't from back in the day when nothing was for mac.. now they are basically the same... with the exception that windows does run more games...
me if i had 2000 to spend on a pc.. id buy all the parts and put it together myself with a cool water cooled case with all the lights in it lol
yeah I really don't like macs, because of the os and the way they built them it's to damn hard to install hard where upgrades.
yeah building a pc would probably be the best way to go, but I do love style of the xps with the jet look and the leds.
Remember the old saying, "Form follows function"
Just get the insides of your machine maxed out then worry about the aesthetics.
The cases at ibuypower.com look pretty sweet.
And Zinga, you're right. I recommended widescreen because I mostly watch videos
Plenty of USB ports would also be a plus. Make sure they're 2.0
Hard drive. SATA would probably be the best way to go. Plenty of storage space to install your games and hold your ISOs....
True, true.
ok I take a look at that site in bit right now my current computer isn't loading it right.
yeah the other that I like is I can get it with a 30" monitor for no extra charge.
haha yeah ports are always good however I shouldn't need any more then three.
another thing is, I may now the psp inside and out but right now I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to computers.
oh before I forget I'm also left handed so I'm in need of specialized mouse and keyboard. I know that logitech makes a mouse but I don't think it was made with gaming in mind.
at least 4 gb of ram and dual core processor if ur lucky a quad core (intel xeon) and prob a nice 320gb sata hardrive should do with maybe vista ultimate and a nice nvidea graphics card
vista ultimate?? pfft XP is way better :P
