That would be better suited for a server, not a desktop computer...

you can never have a computer to powerful. lol.  I've got to be able to play Halo 3 when it comes out for pc not that I don't already have it.

I don't have a problem with vista so long as rco edit, the prx editing programs, photoshop, and cad can run on it.
i like my comps powerful :D
I've got three computers none of which a very good.  I can play Half-Life 1, and that's about it.
Build one, build one, build one, build one, build one, BUILD ONE!!!!!!!!! The satisfaction is great. Mine cost me about £1200 roughly. I spent £200 on my moniter alone lol. ok so spec wise(Bare in mind it's 9 months old)  AMD64 X2 Dual core 5200+ 2.61 GHZ, 2 gig ram, 2x 300gb sata's,  Vista64(not included in price:yes:), Tsunami dreams case lit up with neon green and blue UV's oh and cables braided for better air flow, in green and blue too. Only downsides are graphics and sound(onboard sound, meh sounds good to me...) graphics card is radeon 1950 series 128 ram:S. In need of a better graphics card but, at the moment everything i do and play runs perfectly.

Xp or Vista? Doesn't really matter. Personally I'm a vista whore, I've been usin it since beta. I'm on my pc alot so looking nice is a must. Ok vista eats alot of ram.....geez jus buy some more, ram is soooooo cheap. I'm using 48% ram whilst running about 10 apps, everything is running fine.
1st if you gonna buy a quad core and atleast 2gig ram you must have vista, no need for xp anymore!
This is my opinion and experience,.. ;P

I just bought all new pc in parts,.>> intel quad core>> 2 gig ddr2 ram>>> abit ip35 motherboard>> geforce 8800gts graphics card>> 24" iiyama because this monitor is widescreen and has full hd.

I really recommend quad core>> simple fact 4 cpu's!! ;P
There is a new graphics card coming from nvidia the 8800gt this card is realy cool !!

New cpu's and slot's are coming this summer june/juli 2008 and they will be mucho $$$ so buy a quad core now,..

I would not buy a mac,.. i don't think you can buy a mac in parts,..

you can never have a computer to powerful. lol
Oh yes you can...  You could easily build computers exceeding ~$20,000
And I do believe your budget is like a 10th of that :P

The above setup is better suited for a server, environment, not because it's a powerful machine, but because of it's design.

With the RAM / Vista debate, you _do_ have a limit to your RAM slots.  Plus, AMD chips are known to have issues with certain RAM configurations going beyond 2 sticks of RAM.
Meh, XP x64 is way more stable than Vista :P
you can get the xps with the nvidia graphics card. so then it's either the xps or I build one.
build one
1) you get it the way you want
2)its cheaper
3)the "i made it with my own two hands" feeling

if you get quad core and 2gb ram... you can choose whatever os you want... if you don't know which one to use, you can always do a dual (or tri) booting lol
