Split thread from original debate thread.

Just read an interesting idea:
Quote:But the nightmare scenario would be if the attackers used Sony’s exposed root key to sign a back-doored firmware image or other low-level software update. If they then compromised the PSN update servers they could use them to deliver the malicious update to everyone through the normal trusted channel.

Wikipedia reports 50 million PlayStation 3 units and 70 million PlayStation Notwork users, suggesting that a large percentage of these units are given internet connectivity on an ongoing basis. This attacker could potentially have created overnight the largest botnet in the world by a very large margin.

he wasn't joking when he said he got the key to their safe lol.
anyhow, the majority of these"hackers" are actually just kids who want free games, yes, you can't deny that no dangerous people has got their hand of these stuffs, but yeah.

Apparently these transactions happened on the 18th of April.

you sure it wasn't your grandfather instead?
lol

I know it's not him. I don't think he'd find much use out of PSN games.  That was the only thing weird on the bank statement, since I had only downloaded 7 games, and there were 9 more transactions listed from PSN.

only transactions on bank account are wallet ones, so this means a wallet has been topped up 9+ times.
Hmm... If you mean money was added to my wallet, that can't be it.  My wallet was at zero last I checked (It was a couple of days before those transactions...)  Also, the money from my grandfathers account is gone (not all of it, just the $98 and change from his total balance.

The money I had spent on my 7 games were already withdrawn from his account.  That was on the 9th of April.  I haven't bought anything after that.
errr don't know about where you live but creditcards over here can be used for more than just psn game
breakfast anyone?
Who ever made those transactions only used it to buy PSN games.  Everything else on the statement was normal.

I just hope they won't buy anything else with his information.
Well, all I can say is that I'm glad that I'm of the... pegleg... persuasion when it comes to sony games.
Why? It means that I've never, ever signed up for PSN.
I do feel sorry for people who are affected, though; I hope Sick_Demented manages to successfully reverse dem charges.
It's Sony's fault completely for not making sure their server and system was secured.
