Yeah, clean install sounds like the bidness. Back your stuff up, and install over Vista.
Vista's a piece of trash, anyway.
Assassinator Wrote: [ -> ]Very likely something else is causing it to screw up, rather than just explorer.exe itself being bad.
Indeed - I wasn't fully aware of how many strings pull explorer about till I got
ShellExView.
There are so many DLLs explorer runs with, it may only take one to cause it to crash.
You could extract original files from the WIM if you still have the installation disc.
I'm sure there's file verification tools out there too.
Could also be a dodgy explorer extension (Autoruns).
But if you're going to reinstall, you won't need to worry about that.
Assassinator Wrote: [ -> ]Go with x64 either way. Little reason not to use 64bit these days.
If your comp's old with not too much RAM. I'd probably say minimum 1.5-2GB if you want Vista/7 x64, or minimum 768MB-1GB for XP64.
But 4GB, go with x64.
Right Guys I'm now on Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit... I just used the upgrade instead of clean install...
And my problem is fixed :) thank you all for your help
