It's a choice between hiding under a desk and not dying when a light fixture/other ceiling mounted thing decides to fall on you; and running outside, only to be stopped dead by a light fixture/other ceiling mounted thing that decides to fall on you.

A light falling on you isn't going to kill you, the roof falling on you would (and no desk would protect you from that). The only way to protect yourself from a roof falling on you is to be not under that roof, that is, running outside.
