Too blurry to see anything.  So that's not really any proof.

Anyway, even if wee assume your claim is true, and you actually managed to salvage your jewelry or whatever and get gold into your USB, that still doesn't explain like pretty much every other point listed... that is...

2.  You won't really be able to see that much speed improvements unless the whole path is gold, which it definitely isn't.
3.  5 minutes to do 1GB is fast now?  If you can't hit at least 20MB/s speed (which would let you do 1GB in less than a minute), either your flash drive has slow read/writes (slower than USB2's transfer speed allows), or you're on USB1, or you have serious other problems.
4.  I doubt your OS can down your USB copy speeds by as large an amount as you claim (more than 5x compared to normal).  Copying speeds should be mostly hardware dependent.
5.  And even if it is software dependent like you claim, why the hell are you modding the hardware to remedy that?

Which would mean you wasted a lot of time and effort and money for tiny/no gains that can be achieved in a much more cost effective fashion.

true, but maybe he just likes modding and that's the real reason for all this. i mean, i could come up with lots of lame reasons as to why i put a clear faceplate on my ipod, but in the end, it really comes down to "it looks cool"
no, i found the usb madjigy, it had a different kind of male usb plug on the other end so i kept both ends just in case, and the pictures are taken with my phone

But... but... but... you can't see it (the gold) if it's on the inside....

Also, you're modding for looks, he's modding for performance, so yeah...

you can see the gold male adapter on the outside

perhaps hes modding for looks and pretending that it gives performance boost to sound more 1337?
trademark91 Wrote: [ -> ]you can see the gold male adapter on the outside

Sort of... but it's still not all that visible, unless you specifically put it at an angle and look into it.

And most of the time, when you have your USB plugged into your computer, you can't see it.

your not understanding what im saying. the top of the usb. the metal part. not the threads inside, but the actual plug. theyre usually steel colored, this one is gold. that's what you see. then it would be for looks. because who looks at the inside of a usb? you just plug it in and don't ask questions...

Oh, you mean the outside.

But I thought he modded the pins on the inside...

God damn, did I miss understand the whole thing, and he actually modded the outside instead of the pins?
so, if your so smart, answer the question, why is gold used instead of silver, and from what i learned today, the drive will last longer, even if theres no performance boost
