Kotaku Wrote:After months of speculation, Nintendo has today revealed the launch date for the new 3DS handheld at a press conference in Tokyo.

And that date, at least for the Japanese market, is February 26, 2011. The 3DS will retail there for ¥25,000 (USD$300). Two colours will be available at launch: "Aqua Blue" and "Cosmos Black"

Release dates for the European and North American markets were not quite as specific, Nintendo saying that the handheld would be out in the West in March 2011. No pricing details for these regions were disclosed.

And here's a video shown at the conference of many of the games coming to the 3DS. Needless to say, some of it looks really impressive.

Is the price right? I said I'd buy one if it's under €200 - $300 works about €220 but lets not forget about European price rounding, I wouldn't be surprised if they sold it for more than €250.. which seems a bit much to be honest.... but damn those games look great.
Is the 3DS backwards-compatible? If so...

TAKE MY MONEY NOW, NINTENDO
SHUT UP AND TAKE IT NOW

It's compatible with DS games and will have a Virtual Console for previous generation consoles.

The more I see of the 3DS, the more I think that Nintendo was the next big video game fad.
That look awesome from the hardware prespective otherwise the new games for it (shown in the video) don't interest me.
Wow - the price is a little higher than I expected...

As for the games, I think some of them look fantastic !   RE and Mario Kart look incredible.
One the other hand, some games in the video do not look so hot..   That baseball game they show doesn't look even as good as a PSP game.  Or NintenDogs, doesn't really look any better than the DS version.

Meh - all in all it does look pretty good.   I don't know if I am convinced to pay $300 USD just yet - but for the most part, this does look  pretty promising.
