Recently bought a gameboy pocket transparent. YES i know theyr old! This is specifically for a simple modding project.
Simply put i shall be adding a backlight, more LED's (1 under the dpad and 1 between the a and b buttons.
I shall also be adding a flashcart (but this shall now be built in to the cartridge slot, as in no longer removeable, makes it more portable for me).
2 weeks and ill have everything i need for this, so hopefully ill keep ya posted :)
woo maek some chip choons on it.
xitherun is on to something
listen to the man
ok, but care to elaborate on that idea?
I would presume you mean mod it into some sort of music creation device (it can be done i know, cause it has been before). I won't wiv this 1 i doubt, unless i can manage it and keep it to play games too. BUT i shall probably buy a few more and add different mods to each one
You don't need to mod anything, you just need a flash cart. ;p
This is the one I use with my DMG. Oh but, you have a pocket, and those don't really work with pockets, so if you want a flash cart, you'll have to track down a
SmartBoy or opt for the not-so-ethical, more expensive
Bleep Bloop cart.
oh, and
this is most likely what you'd put on your flash cart.
ahh rite mate. sorry i ddnt quite understand ya. i maybe i shall do something like that. seems pretty interesting:)
k guys. and nuhretix, i got a bleepbloop (my god theyr rare to find) and lsdj. its all epic.
I now have a gameboy color, a pocket (which i backlit, and sat on and broke!). Backlight is reusable so ive got ANOTHER pocket arriving soon to replace screen with. Ill post pics when i get round to it, and if i manage to put together a decent tune ill post it too:)
Did you get the USB variant? They shouldn't be that hard to
find, lol.
Now how did you go about backlighting the pocket? I way prefer the pocket over the DMG, and I'd love to have a backlit onee.
That was where i got it from. I had to wait for stock, as it was the only place i could find it at all. I got their v2.0 backlighting kit aswell, and followed a tut by a guy called bibin (whos responsible for 90% of all gb pocket mods available:
Tutorial: Backlight GBP
The mod works extremely well, except i messed up bad to begin with. I removed the polarized film, and umm.. forgot that the piece nonelectronics provide is for DMG, not GBP, so size didnt fit (was too small)
Note: The tut never mentions to add a new layer of polarized film to the back, even though its obvious too. But you don't need to replace the film if you carefully clean the back of any remaining glue from the silver layer.
All in all, including carefully filing down sharp edges in the case and pins on the board, aswell as another simple mod, it took me about 75mins from unscrewing the case to perfecting it.
Another Note: colors that i personally think go well with gb and light:
silver gb +blue bl
transparent gb +blue/red bl
black gb+red bl
yellow+white bl
any other colour gb+matching colour bl
Just my opinion though lol, which probably sucks cause i think bright orange and robins egg blue go well;)
ah, I should've know it was bibin. ;p
I've been thinking about asking him if he could do some mods to my pocket, as I have no skill in the electronics area. :p
And I didn't know nonfinite's backlights worked for pockets either.
I've got a (custom painted) white DMG on the way, with a Cyan backlight as well. Woo.
