I don't consider it much of a fail, as "mag" can translate to both like or love. An easy example would be the phrase, "I'm lovin' it." McDonald's promoted the phrase in multiple languages, and in German it translates to "Ich liebe es," and in which case "liebe" doesn't necessarily translate directly to love, it could also mean like. Also there is no shortened version of "liebe" to match that of the "lovin'" part, so that could be counted as another sort of fail. So "mag" could mean love or like, it all depends on the speaker's/translater's preference.
