It's not needed.

Correction:

It's needed if you want to play UMDs. You also need to enable "Use version.txt" in recovery menu.
Version.txt is stored in flash0:/vsh/etc/ folder or ms0:/TM/DC8/vsh/etc/ if you are in DC8 test M33 mode.

Home button seems to be not working in my configuration when playing LBP from UMD.

Thanks but it doesn't seem to work I tried it with a Japanese God Eater UMD and a .cso. It simply goes to a black screen.
Running 5.50 GEN-D3 on a 2000 Slim by the way

well like i said in the Tutorial "+++The only bug is the display I'm sure someone can fix this ( the quick fix is to turn off the psp and back on, for now)+++" so when you get the black screen just turn psp off then back on. Then the game should work

Well when I try to turn my PSP off in God Eater my power light starts to blink like crazy, then it goes solid again after 20 secs and my PSP shuts completely off! moments later
