About how good anti-virus is, based on detection rates, here are some stats:

http://www.av-comparatives.org/seiten/er...007_02.php

So yeah, Norton is not the best, but it's not really shtt, like what everyone thinks either. If ur wondering about shtt, check up Microsoft's antivirus.

And AVG is actually slightly worse than Norton, in terms of detection rates, but has a more likable GUI than Norton.

the best one seems to be something i haven't even heard of. Check the results for urself.

Microsoft's antivirus solution REALLY SUCKS BALLS. it failed so hard in the tests that it didn't even get a certification level. HahahaHahahaHahaha

=DON'T use Microsoft OneCare

I still use AVG anyways, cause it's free.

In terms of anti spyware, yeah, i use spybot and ad-aware as well.

I tried using spyware doctor, but it is the most fudgein annoying program, asks u for permission every 10 minutes to connect to the internet, and it's background processes takes 250mb ram (more than spybot, ad-aware, AVG and Zone Alarm added up) = DON'T use spyware doctor.

It also seems to slow down ur other processes. Normally, encoding video on low priority never seems to lag the computer much at all, but when i had spyware doctor on, it was lagging so hard i couldn't do anything. And it's not cause of the memory, i have 1.5gb of RAM. So i don't know double you tee eff it's doing in the background, but i can tell u it lags stuff down. = Don't use spyware doctor

And i think i remember hearing that Zinga doesn't even use antivirus.
AVG, Norton, and Windows Defender all run at the the same time... well only AVG will Scan everyday for viruses and the others will download updates like normal.

AVG maybe slightly lower than nortron becasue it's free but it's still good to have at least one anti-virus software at all
I disagree - don't fiddle with viruses and you'll never get none.  So far, 0 viruses in 5 years of frequent computer usage with no A/V software...

If you do get a virus - 90% of the time, it'll be badly coded.  Just open Process Explorer NT, terminate suspicious processes (the viruses will be named something like "WinUpdates" or "svchost.exe" or something lame).  Then go into msconfig, and disable the startup process.
The best AV programs around are probably Nod32 and Kapersky.  I use Avira AntiVir mainly because it is free, can detect alot of things if configured properly, and it doesn't use too many resources.  Avoiding viruses isn't always easy, but if you are smart about what you are doing then ZB is right, you won't really need an AV program.
kaspersky sucks it detects bad serials

I haven't used it myself, was basing that from ratings and other stuff online.

??? u mean bad windows serials and stuff?

and why does that matter. it's not like it forces u to get real serials does it?

Kaspersky is very powerful in that it can detect rootkits and stuff, a function not present in most anti virus software.

i assume ur using a firewall. cause without a firewall, virus' can enter ur computer thru weaknesses, without u actually downloading anything.

Also, i can never do that, cause i have a little sister.

Even if i don't download anything that might be a virus, someone else would.

And sometimes, u can't just say "don't download anything that is could be a virus". Like when u download a crack, or keygen, or something like that, it has a very high chance of being a virus, yet, u don't want to pay $80 for the game... so u download it anyways. And then, u'll need an anti-virus to scan it.
