I have a gateway and my laptop recently stopped working. It doesn't get past this message....

It just stops at this screen with the underscore blinking.
For those who will suggest using a bootdisk, it doesn't want to boot any CD even though i put it first in the boot priority screen. I can still access the BIOS. I've tried setting up the defaults in the BIOS setup screen as well.
Any remedies?
its trying to PXE boot to network, go into your BIOS and change the boot order to hard drive first. problem solved ;D

I've tried that. The only two things in the boot order is the realtek and the cd drive. :(

Can you hear it spin up when you turn on the laptop?

Would it be pointless to open it up and just try to see if the hard drive is like loose?

And idk this is reaallly weird. I can hear it actually. Makes an odd sound now. Like scracthing sounds.
yeah either your hard drives has eventually went due to old age (like mine did in thread many year ago on this site)
or you dropped it and have damaged the read heads on the platters
