But you can also blame whoever gave you the AVI. Sound Forge seems to accept DivX/Xvid fine here, which is what most AVIs are. Unless this is like a DV capture or something similar.

Encoding doesn't even use the GPU, unless you specifically use a GPU based encoder.

but still, encoding, or doing anything CPU intensive sends my GPU temp up to like 90°C. Laptop cooling is bullchocolate.
