In the sort of games I play, you'll never get to a stage where you can take out a whole team by yourself. They'll never just let you sit there farming all day. Pretty much caster/AoE team rolls you. Imagine some team like ES, lion, lich, priestess, zeus. Lane dominate you early game, rape you in midgame and team fights, and you won't get to a late game and/or won't get farmed enough such that troll's any useful at all.
I have nothing against carry heros, but they also need to be useful early-mid game as well. Because for all you know, what if there is no lategame? or what if they rape you so hard early game you just can't farm up the items? Need something that at least has some form of nuke/stun/slow/orb, so you're not completely useless early-mid, for example, stuff like luna, juggers, drow, nevermore, priestess. My favorite heros are stuff that are strong the whole game, like Lich, very strong laner due to your awesome mana management (dark ritual, nuke sPa/\/\), very strong midgame because your ulti is is like among the best, and still good late game because your ulti still pew pews stuff (especially if you're farmed and you have Aghnims and/or refresher), and frost armor is very useful (stick it on your whole team, adds significant survivability vs their late game carries).
Troll's more an easy mode hero where you farm up 3 endgame weps and roll stuff. Also somewhat boring to play, not much variety, I mean you just sit there farming or neutralling all day. So I'll still rather play something like SA/PA/spectre over troll for em, more fun to play.

You must understand... "imba" = imbalanced. If you roll stuff because you played good, that's not imbalance, that's skill.

That reminds me, you every tried grouping up with a group of friends and killing Roshan way at the start? Good for some lols, will full surprise the enemy team. Need some stuff to tank, like Syla, and some stuff for dps like veno (wards) or ursa, summon heros are decent for both. All heros rush roshan at start, and then gank mid.

Never said all agi heros are late game carries, but the large majority (at least more than 1/2) are. Stuff like viper/drow/clinks are decent at the start, because the orb gives you good lane control. Stuff like lunar/juggers/VS are decent at the start too.
