I finally had to give up on mah windows installation, took me over 4 minutes before I could do anything with it.  I have a q6600, 3gb of ram, there's no way it was a hardware issue.  I must have gotten hit with a bug or trojan I couldn't shake.
Anyway, I usually use the k-lite codec pack, gives me everything I need, add vlc, and I'm always set.  Anyone else have a favorite?
K-lite mega codec pack .. never failed me yet

(or maybe i just don't play that many kinds of file formats Hihi)

I like CCCP (Combined Community Code Pack, but "CCCP" on Google brings ya right to it). It has codecs for MANY formats...

funny enough, ever since I installed GOMPlayer, I've never had to install a codec pack... it plays practically everything I need it to play!
Thanks fer the advice, I'm goin' with k-lite.  I think I tried cccp awhile back, kept going back to k-lite.  After AI install a few updates here and a program here and there, gonna image the drive so I don't have to go through this spoon again.
