the last time i use GOM, yes, the subtitles reposition is awesome and stuff, but 30% of the subtitles just doesn't show up, so its a no go =\

VLC doesn't actually need a codec pack. GOM's nice, and from what I can tell, it's somewhat like KMPlayer (which I'd probably prefer over GOM). Went back to MPC though.

Perian for Mac OS X is great. Makes Quicktime a freaking swiss army knife of video playback.

CCCP....K-lite used to really bug for me, so i ditched it

CCCP absolutely smashes K-Lite junk out of the universe, tried both, K-Lite has compatibility problems with Vista/2008 particularly. It's the best IMO, as long as you are not a newbie..... I do a lot of video production and authoring and it has never failed me.

CCCP is rather lightweight. It should be enough for most peoples' needs. K-Lite includes more stuff that CCCP doesn't have, such as Real Alternative, VFW codecs and ACM codecs. As for whether you'll need these depends on what you do. K-Lite works well on NT6.x systems I've tried, so I don't know of compatibility problems, but both should be fine for general use.

assuming you mean Server 2008 (?). CCCP is ideal for you if need a codec pack just to play your common day files and understand much the various audio/video/etc settings. For instance, you want to download an anime or a movie and just play it.
K-:ite is somewhat more advanced in that it allows a wider range of customization withing some limit. Plus, it intends user to be able to play any known format, however obscure or whatever its source. For instance, you can'y play Quicktime movie or Real movie files with CCCP.
In conclusion, it doesn't matter which you choose as both use similar technology for the basic purpose.
