considering nothing from above, I'd say wait a while and get the N97. 48 GB of media where ever + a decent camera + wifi/3g/connectivity + mails/msgs/etc + phone.

well personally i would recommend only the ipod touch/phone, anything else just blows majorly
the touch just has so many cool features and awesome pricetag, personally im trying to sell my laptop right now and and go buy one (if you remember my previous thread, my psp crapped out and is now collecting dust; and since i don't care about games much anymore NOW im considering the touch)
though i must admit, im going to wait a bit until its hacked; apple restricts the ipod touch to pure useless poo poo :( (double you tee eff? can't read text?!?!?!?! no removable disk mode?!??!?!?!?!?)
but remember, if your looking for video and music only then the ipod touch doesn't exactly fit the bill (and i have to admit the archos 5 is really awesome, the only reason why i don't say its better than the touch is its price tag, money is everything; people want a bang for their buck)
also im really against having a device for everything (like phone, music player, gps etc etc)
because if that one device runs out of battery, yours entirely screwed for the rest of the day and odds are since that device handles everything you do it will run out of battery pretty quick
that's why i keep my crappy cell phone and go buy a different product for music/videos, i can't afford to have my phone go out because i watched an hours worth of video.

PSP is still excellent for video IMO. A 4.3in screen for like $200, compared to those other players asking for $500+ (note, prices in AUD).
Personally, I'd prefer one of those tiny things for MP3 players. IMO, you really don't need more than ~8GB of music - but I guess if you like showing off your collection to friends, that's something else...

My point is that everyone seems to think that ipods are the best that money cam buy. period. but, if you actually do a bit of looking you acn find devices that can do more, to a better standard, that cost less and won't break a month after the warranty goes.

because I'm not a sheep. sheep buy ipods.
And i thought them learning to commando roll was impressive....
I saw that on the news. very impressive. Apparently in New Zeland the sheep have learned that they can't cross the cattle grids. When a new one needs fitting the authorities just paint white lines across the road instead. the sheep think that the lines are the bars of a cattle grid and just don't bother trying.

I was just thinking the same...

Remeber i only have a £100 budget. A quich google later finds that an N96 costs £490. I've no idea how much the N97 is going to cost, but its not going to be less. And before anyone suggests a contract, No. Just No. I've done the math and on the cheapest contract i could find you end up paying for the phone 6 times over. I hardly ever use my phone (a £30 piece of poo poo that does everything i want and came with a free 2gb microSD card) so i wouldnt get my money's worth.

I agree with you totally.

The fact that the psp has no in-built memory was always a killer for me. When the PSP was first released i was unsure about getting one because of the price of memory. In fact, even today, Sony's Memory Stick format is overpriced. £60 for a 16Gb card wheras an equivalent SD card would cost roughly £20.
Anyway, the Archos is ordered and on its way. Should arrive on wednesday but i can't touch it 'till christmas.

By the way, 8GB is more price efficient here (you could always bring along 2 cards...)
Think about it this way: pay for the PSP and smaller memory card. In about 2 years perhaps, upgrade the memory card - it'd be cheaper than buying a whole new device with the same amount of internal memory.
I can get an 8GB Sandisk stick for AU$61 here, whilst the cheapest 8GB MP4 player I can find (which is probably poo poo) is like over AU$100 (a more reasonable one is probably closer to AU$200).
Plus the fact that the PSP can play games etc is just some extra pluses.
But the PSP isn't the best thing for music - I'll say that.
Haven't seen any good SD/SDHC based MP3 players here (though I haven't really looked), so wouldn't know the prices of them though.

If I were you I wouldve got a psp and removed the UMD drive, then modified in one of those dual Sd card readers off eBay into the drive bay
