For those of you that have 3g phones like Blackberries or whatever, I have a question for you. If the phone gets unlocked, can it function with just a 2.5G SIM card? Cause I want to get an iPhone 3G, but I want to get it unlocked and just use the SIM card I have, plus I really don't need the faster network and whatever. If it works on other unlocked 3G phones, it should work on the iPhone.
i think so.. not 100% sure though.
my pocket pc (phone) is able to fo 3G but i never use it.. and my sim doesn't support it.. so i guess it SHOULD work..
i have a 3G phone but its just a regular sonyerricson phone not a smart phone and the normal 2.5g sim cards work in mine.
im not sure about the iphone though as its a smart phone and mine is just a regular sony cybershot phone.
Not too clued up on 3G myself, but the iPhone 3G does look pretty awesome IMO.
...I don't know, I know my phone has it but I've never actually had a phone before this one. If someone send me simcard I could try it.

I think it also depends on what cell provider you have. Thinking about it, I think you need a 3g sim card for 3g because my moms old sim card didn't have and she had to get a new one.

No, you misunderstand my question. Are 3G phones backwards compatible with 2G SIMS, not the other way around.
That's what I am saying. My mom had an old sim card and she had to get a new one with her 3g phone

Oh ok. I just want to get a 3g iPhone, but only use the 2.5G. I think the settings have a soft-switch to change between the 2, so I hope you can stick a 2.5G SIM in there and just have the switch permanently be set to 2.5G
okay, well I wish you luck and I hope it works out
I don't have a 3g phone. but I have a 3g sim. the telecoms company gladly gave me one.
