I think it also depends on what cell provider you have. Thinking about it, I think you need a 3g sim card for 3g because my moms old sim card didn't have and she had to get a new one.
No, you misunderstand my question. Are 3G phones backwards compatible with 2G SIMS, not the other way around.
i have a 2.5G SIM and it DOES work in my 3G phone. but then again, my phone (Nokia 6233) supports both 2G-3G SIMS. i have found that most 3G phones here in Aus though do support 2.5G SIMs, theres only a small few that don't...
