Is it much surprise? Not really, but from the HD Anime I've seen, it is a great experience.

Makoto Shinkai's 5cm per Second is the third most popular Blu-ray Disc (BD) sold on the Amazon Japan retail website during the six months between December 1, 2007 and May 31, 2008. The Blu-ray Disc version of Shinkai's previous film, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, is also among the top 10, and overall, anime accounted for six of Amazon Japan's top Blu-ray Discs.

For the six-month period, the most popular Blu-ray Disc sold through Amazon Japan was the Resident Evil trilogy box, followed by Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and 5cm per Second. Will Smith's I Am Legend came in fourth, followed by the .hack//G.U. Trilogy, Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, The Phantom of the Opera, Pixar's CG-animated Ratatouille, and finally, Mobile Suit Gundam F91.

According to an Amazon Japan analyst, Blu-ray Disc releases are particularly appealing to anime fans who are interested in the highest possible quality in the releases that they are spending money on.

5cm 720p on the Computer Monitor is absolutely astounding. So 1080 must be incredible as well. I've seen Vexille 720p as well, that is a great title as well, fantastic Visuals.

As wee know, a lot of Fansub releases are being done in h264 720p as well, which is great.
i wonder how big files for episodes are when theyr in 1080 :D

For fansubs, which are web releases, which mean they focus on cutting down size.

The material on Bluray will focus on highest quality, so I think it will MUCH larger size per episode.

...

Anime here is the most ripoff type of DVDs to buy ever. It's like $29.99 for a DVD, which has like 3-4 episodes on it. That's retarded.

But it's supposedly even worse in Japan. Some OVAs sell for like $50+ (equivalent of Japanese price) for only 1 episode.
A quality rip of 5 Centimeters per Second in 1080p by THORA is....................................................................

2.18GB... not that big, but it is only 1hr long, and quality by THORA is always flawless
Woooooow that's quite alot per episode....but way worth it!!!

Are you referring to the size (Sensei's post)? or the cost (my post)?

$29.99 for 3 episodes? No way.

People complain that games are expensive. A game (assuming a decent one) for $80 is way more worth it than 3 episodes for $30.
you have no life.
Hey man, I'm a full time uni student. I have little income. It is not in my best interest to waste money.
not you, sensei whos posting news 24/7 I should direct my posts better.
