not really a piece of news, but this shocked me! dunno if its true but...

That's the figure for the portable media player market (and there definitions are a bit vague, for example they don't include the PSP in that, or any archos mp4 players, etc). In the digital media player market apple has about 48%, with Creative, Archos, iRiver & Sandisk pretty much chopping up the rest themselves.

... - no good codec support - you have to PAY to replace batteries - proprietary connectors (ie headphones) - requires ghey syncing software (I prefer drag 'n drop in explorer) - bad value compared to many other products available.

iPods are more of a fashion accessory, if you ask me.  They're alright as a player - but better ones exist.
