Wow, most powerful setup I've seen yet. So how much did u pay for that?

Big over-kill for general use and normal gaming.

But PS2 emulation is not normal gaming, and that'll be about what you'll need, if u want to emulate at good speeds.

You'll probably easily do 60fps (perfect speed) for FFX. For some harder-to-emulate games, u might still lag though.

U can use both the keyboard or a controller. Depends on what u prefer. Controller is better if u have one.

I have no idea where to get one, but i know it exists as well.


hmmm. it takes like 6+ghz of power to emulate a weak 500mhz PS2. Imagine what u will need to emulate the PS3...

No, the PS2 is a weak 500mhz machine, with a crappy graphics card.

BUT to emulate that weak machine, u will need a very powerful 6ghz+ cpu.

This is becuase the PC and PS2 are copmpletely different, and for a command on the PS2 to be emulated onto the PC, it becomes way more complicated. So it takes a lot more power to emulate a machine that how strong the machine actually is. + the computer cpu has to emulate both the PS2 cpu and gpu.

Oh, also, the PS2 gpu also has to be almost completely emulated by the computer cpu, putting extra strain on the PC cpu.

An example is the N64. the actual thing had, if i remember correctly, something like a 26 or 50mhz cpu (EDIT: actually 94mhz). But to emulate it, u will need like a 500+mhz computer. To emulate it perfectly, u will need 1.5ghz.


So yeah, the PS2 doesn't have a monster gpu. it has a peice of poo poo only slightly better than modern integrated graphics.

And the PS3 has a gpu that uses the same architecture as a 7900gtx. Which means your 2x8800gtx should be way stronger than the PS3 gpu.

It's just that consoles like the PS3 are designed for playing games, and thus is lot more efficient at it thatn a PC. An identical gpu on the PS3 can crank out graphics a lot better than the same gpu on a PC could.

Ok, here are the exact numbers.

The PS2 cpu is 297mhz, that added with the PS2 gpu, which is 147mhz, makes 454mhz total power. (so my 500mhz from memory was slightly off.)

And my dodgey memory about the n64 is also a bit wrong, the n64 is actually 93.75mhz. But it still takes a 500mhz computer just to start emulating it at very poo poo speeds, and takes a 1.5-2ghz computer to do it perfectly.

well, the ps3 gpu is similar in strength to a 7900gtx (uses the same architecture, meaning the cards are quite similar). your 2x 8800gtx in SLI probably has a power output of like 1.5 times a normal 8800gtx, and that's probably twice as stong as a 7900gtx, so your gpu setup is probably twice as strong as the PS3's setup. :)

But u paid a lot more for your graphics cards than the one insider the PS3, so it's not really that unexpected that your setup is way stronger. Your cpu is also way stronger than the PS3's cpu.

oh, and also remember to turn on both multithreaded GS mode and dual core mode in cpu options in Pcsx2, otherwise the emulator won't take advantage of your multiuple cores, and u will then probably lag.

Haha, you can't really add it up like that.  The architecture between the two is different...
The CPU having to do translation and execution needs to handle the two separately and in different fashions.


Actually, the PS3's CELL processor has more processing power than Intel's Core 2 Extreme QX6700 Quad Core CPU.  The CELL peaks at around 410 GigaFlops per module; the PS3's peaks at around 2 TeraFlops.  Intel's fastest CPU peaks at around 50 GigaFlops.  And, nVidia's G80 graphics card peaks at around 330 GigaFlops.  (note, FLOPS = floating point operations per second).
So, technically, no computer's CPU is faster than the PS3's...

Oh, another thing, SLI actually slows down your CPU...
