grub/comp problems
So, a while ago, I installed Puppy Linux on my slow computer. On a separate partition to Xp of course. (Dual boot with GRUB as the bootloader)
I never used it, so today I uninstalled it using PartitionMagic. Formatted the partitions and added the space to my XP paritition. When I rebooted, going into grub I get an error.
It says something like:
And then it doesn't go any farther.
I have a Compaq computer, and I can get into the bios. But now I can't open the CD drive, and it's not booting from the CD in there. (Yes, it's bootable) I might try just prying it open.
The computer does have a floppy dirve.
What to do...
By the way, I may have forgottten some things, but this is typing hell cause I have a cast on. I'll answer other questions if needed.
Thanks!

RE: grub/comp problems
you removed the linux partition without removing grub? nice :>
basically, grub stage 1 resides in the mbr which loads stage 1.5 which loads the stuff in /boot (on your linux partition)
fixmbr from the recovery console of your winxp cd should able to fix this.
check bios settings for booting from cd.

RE: grub/comp problems
Oh. O_O
Whoops.
Right now, my XP CD is already in, and it's not booting from it, and I don't know if there is a BIOS setting (for the compaw one I have) that even lets you change the boot order, so will I have use a floppy to boot from the CD if this turns out to be the case?
edit: Scratch the XP CD being in. It's not. :p
But the CD that is in has lots of things that I can do with it, like a version of DOS.
So, I think I need to do the floppy thing, cause there isn't a boot order kind of option in the BIOS.

RE: grub/comp problems
Don't know if those would work, but this might have been what I wanted:

Gonna try this.
edit: Okay, so I get to a screen that says I can use fdisk to format my hard drive. Does that mean I can use fdisk \mbr to fix my MBR?
edit2: Okay, that worked and everything is fine now.
Thanks bstronga, +rep for you!
