RE: so about the laptop...
I have to say that I have been using vista for about two weeks and it isn't as big of a failure as everyone says it. I love the ability to look at all my windows and cycle through them and I love the default vista theme.  Also it could just be me but files and other things seem to transfer a lot faster on vista rather than xp. While I am saying this though I must point that I bought a pretty high end laptop. If I were to tell you about vista on my aunts computer it would be a nightmare. Some computers have no windows aero support that removes have the fun and smoothness of the thing right there, and some lacking ram may find vista really slow. Coming back to this I also seem to find cool new suprises all the time that microsoft added in.

I really hate linux. I tried it once and I just absolutely hated it. I am not you but I am telling you from experience I didn't like it. The only real reason I tried was because I really wanted to try mac only to figure out that mac is 125$. I was like okay I heard linux is customizable so, hell I'll go with this linux thing that is sort of like mac. Well after wasting my time with that I was rather angry and decided to move on to Ubuntu. It was the same piece of poo poo. I found the graphics to be horrible (thinking about it I don't think it had any driver support for my video card), and even though I found the 4 virtual desktops to be cool it wasn't enough. I also managed to find "IceWeasel" which was like some piece of poo poo firefox rip off and on top of that the shizzy graphics wouldn't even let me use the shoutbox right. No EP definitely no ubuntu. I figured if ubuntu was suppose to be the best and the best sucked I wasn't going to experiment any further. (this is just my opinion)

I don't have much experience with macs except what I have used in school. From what I've used of them I liked them. (Except when the school seemed to have chocolatety computers and they seemed to lock up a lot.) I think it looks really cool and I would love to dual boot it just to see what it is like. I also don't have much experience with the new os though. I think I only ever tried it once. Mac is cool but I really hope they got rid of those floating contracted window bars. I also hope they made the buttons to contract and close the windows bigger. I also hear that a lot of good graphics programs and such are designed for mac. I also think the dock is sort of cool. I don't know many negative things about other than what I posted up their but like I said haven't really used, used it.

Those are my opinions if they help you at all in figuring out what to purchase.

I don't know what version distro you were using, but the current Linux GUI is at par with Vista and in case of distros like Sabayon linux, its almost at par with Mac.

The greatest reason I want to have a go @ Mac OS is cause over here, Mac is still more of a dreamers OS. Its just now that Apple realised what great potential Mac has over here! Earlier macbooks were more than twice the normal laptops price for a similar configuration, but now they are almost at par. For instance, entry level Macbook and XPS notebooks are similarly price. Of course for the price of an upgrade (in Macbook) I could go for a full blown highly upgraded XPS. Also, to buy a decent Macbook pro, I'd have to shell out as much moolah as to to be able to buy an Acer Ferrari series, and THAT would bring real jazz to life!

Anyhoo, my point is that I have had enough with windows machine and the fact that everything revolves around windows! I figure that an entire non-windows machine will be a good change!
