sorry i wasn't being very clear. does the problem occur after the system is warmed up or does it do it every time it boots?
it is tricky to diagnose when its someone elses machine but ill still help here if i can. all the signs atm are right now still pointing at a graphics card problem.

ok so a cold boot was just ran. prefect run and it was a system overheat.

edit: the cold boot crashed (screens) no sooner than after i left the room to post this message.

So wait, the screens show up - ie you can see stuff under the 0's right?
Does sound like screwed VGA, but could be other things.  I guess you could try reseating the graphics card, replugging in the monitor and possibly resetting the CMOS if you don't have spare parts.

looks like i will need those images after all. but the screen becomes covered in zeros after one boot.

hmm smells suspiciously like a suffering graphics card for sure. best way is do what zinga says - also touch the cards cooler (be carefull it may be hot) and see if its very hot (it should be quite cool if its working correctly) if its not hot and still doing the zeros thing try what was suggested already - removing and reseating the card(s). if that doesn't help then if you can get another graphics card to test the system then you should do that (if you do this use a cheap card just in case - don't want to risk killing 2 graphics cards, just in case).

thanks for the screens - there very helpfull. i think he has at least 2 different problems, the color is very yellow and that could be the card or the monitor but in conjunction with the zeros that could be both. im not 100% sure now however that the card is the problem that's causing the zeroes as there too evenly spaced. i think you should test the card in a different machine to eliminate it because i now suspect it might not be just the card. this is one of those tricky buggers to trace the fault with, it is going to be trial and error to find the fault im afraid.
