Preparations
Tools you will need:
• Small Phillips Screw Driver.
• Small Flathead Screw Driver.
• Compile all recommended opening tools.

• Place your PSP Original (Phat) on a clean flat and soft surface, such as a rubber mat or a piece of soft cloth.

• Remove the two screws on the top and bottom right side of the PSP.

• Remove the PSP Battery Door and take out the PSP battery.

• Remove the two screws at the top of the battery compartment.

Warning your are voiding the Sony warranty if you proceed with this step. Remove the warranty void sticker using an opening tool.

• Remove the two screws underneath the seal.

• Remove the screw at the bottom of your PSP.

• Now you should be able to carefully remove the PSP front panel.

• Place the PSP front panel somewhere safe.

• Pry loose the start/select... button bar that is covering the bottom of the PSP screen.

• Lift  the start/select... button bar and flip it over to the right side, so the bottom of the screen becomes fully exposed.

• Pry between the metal frame that is attached to the PSP logic board and between the metal frame of the PSP screen itself. The goal is to release the screen from the clips holding it in place.

• Repeat the same on the right side of the screen and twist the flatheat screwdriver so the screen is pushed upwards.

• You should now be able to flip the screen towards you, exposing the ribbon cables connecting to the PSP logic board.

• Use the opening tool to flip the screen connector latch open.

• Use the opening tool to flip the backlight connector latch open. Be extremely careful, this latch is very breakable.

• You successfully removed the screen. To install the new psp screen, follow the steps in reverse order.

• Follow the steps of the PSP Screen Removal Guide, then remove the start/select/volume button bar by opening the small latch between the metal frame and the DC-Jack.

• Remove all screws holding the metal frame in place.

• Carefully lift the metal frame off the PSP logic board.

• Remove the screw on the top left corner of the directional pad and flip the pad to the right, exposing the connector latch.

• Open the connector latch using the opening tool.

• The next step is to remove the button pad on the right side of the PSP. Pry the small PCB with the four buttons loose from the plastic clip at it's top.

• Lift the PCB up and turn it around.

• Open the connector latch at it's bottom.

• To open the connector latch use the opening tool as shown in image.

• Set the PCB aside.

• Open the connector latch of the cable leading from the button pad PCB you just removed to the PSP motherboard.

• Open the top of the connector latch of the ribbon cable leading to laser unit of the PSP UMD drive. Push the latch in direction of the ribbon cable.

• Open the bottom of the connector latch of the ribbon cable

• Open the the connector of the ribbon cable leading to the motor unit of the PSP UMD drive.

• Release the right speaker connector by inserting and carefully twisting a flathead screwdriver.

• Release the left speaker connector.

• Release the PSP DC-Jack connector with the flathead screwdriver.

• Lift up the Wifi-antenna and remove the antenna cable from the logic board.

• Pry the PSP logic board upward to release it from the PSP frame.

• Now you should be able to pull it out of the PSP frame.

• You have successfully removed the logic board, the remaining steps will show you how to remove the PSP UMD drive.

• Start by removing the screw next to the right PSP speaker.

• Use the flathead screwdriver to pry between the PSP frame and the hinge of the UMD door cover. Push the PSP door platic latch inward, away from the frame, to release the small pivot from it's anchoring. Perform this step on the left and right hinge of the PSP door cover.

• While you pry as described in step 23, pull the platic cover of PSP UMD door away from the PSP backplate. It should snap loose as shown in the image.

• When you remove the plastic cover of the PSP UMD door you expose the metal tray of the UMD drive.

• Remove the four screws in the edges of the UMD drive. The drive should now come loose from the PSP backplate. Be sure to remove it slowly and prevent the ribbon cables from getting trapped.

Tools you will need:

• Compile all recommended opening tools and place your PSP Slim on flat soft surface.

• Begin by turning the device on its front and remove the two screws on the right side.

• Remove the battery cover and the battery and remove the screws inside the battery compartment.

• Remove the screw on the bottom.

• Remove the two screws on the top.

• Gently lift the front plate.

• The next component that needs to be remove is the button bar at the bottom of the screen.

• Release the clip on the left side of the button bar using the flathead screwdriver.

• Do the same on the right side of the button bar.

• Slide the flathead between the PSP slim screen and the metal frame at the left top side of the screen and twist the flathead gently. Use extreme care, since the screen can crack if you apply to much force. The screen should come loose from the fram on this side.

• Flip the screen forward.

• Open the latch of the screen connector using the flathead screwdriver.

• Release the backlight connector and gently pull the screen downward until the ribbon cables come loose from the connectors.

• Now that the screen is gone open the latch of the button bar connector and pull out the attached flex cable.

• Open the latch of the connector for the directional pad.

• Loosen and remove the ribbon cable of the right button pad and the power switch section. Pull out the power cord by grabbing the two black wires running to the DC-Jack with your fingers and gently pulling the plug out of the socket.

• Remove the metal bar at the top.

• Push the bottom side of the latch holding the wide, light brown ribbon cable. Use a flathead screwdriver to push the latch in direction of the ribbon cable.

• Do the same with the top side of the latch and gently pull the ribbon cable out of the connector.

• Flip the directional pad assembly upward, remove the remaining screws holding the motherboard in place and gently lift the PSP slim logic board out of the frame.

• Remove the screw of the PSP slim analog stick and release it from the frame.

• Remove the screw of the DC-Jack and release it from the frame, release the speaker from the frame.

• Turn the PSP backplate around and slide the flathead between the PSP slim UMD doorhinge and the frame pushing the hinge inward and downward at the same time. Apply gentle force until the hinge comes loose on this side.

• Remove the white plastic piece holding the UMD door spring in place.

• Remove the spring by pulling it inward with the flathead screwdriver.

• Slide the flathead between the UMD door hinge and the frame pushing the hinge inward and downward at the same time. Apply gentle force until the hinge comes loose on this side as well.

• The UMD door will now come loose from the frame. Turn the device around.

• Remove the 4 screws holding the PSP slim UMD drive to the PSP's backplate.

• Gently lift the UMD drive out of the backplate, be sure the ribbon cables don't get trapped to keep them from tearing.

For reassembly follow the disassembly steps in reverse order.
