SSD Optimization?
I have a pizza in the oven, so i need to do a quick post.

So i put a 64GB SSD into my desktop and i have to say it's quite fast; but unfortunately it's not performing as good as it was when i had it in my laptop. My guess is that maybe my computer checks and starts up the 1TB HD that i use for storage. Dunno. In anycase, i was just wondering if anyone here has any experience as to why this is happening and what would be some good optimizations for an SSD.

Also, before you say anything about price, i bought a 64GB ssd for 70$; it was a pretty good deal imo.

Thanks guys :D

General SSD thread in here if I'm making the topic too boring or too annoying to answer :P

RE: SSD Optimization?
Try changing the boot order in the BIOS so that the SSD is first on the list.

RE: SSD Optimization?
Also disable virtual memory on the SSS and put it on your 1tb drive.

You sure? From what I've heard putting your pagefile on an SSD is one way of killing it quickly. SSD's can only do a finite number of writes (thousands) to each sector. After that they wear out. Putting the pagefile on an SSD means it being written to pretty much constantly.

yeh you do realise ALL harddrives have a certain amount of cycles and see how the operating system is on the SSD your constanly using them but yeh pagefile on other HD can help just put it all on like schmilk said.

Raxco Perfectdisk is a great defrag tool that should help it even has boot defrag

RE: SSD Optimization?
Thanks schmilk + squee; my computer got a huge speed boost when i did that, i don't know if the "problem" was solved but it's behaving like it should be i'd assume.

HDDs can easily sustain millions of write cycles.

Pagefile on SSD will make virtual memory faster but potentially means your SSD dies quicker.
If you've got plenty of RAM, I'd stick the pagefile on the HDD since it'll only be storing stuff you don't often access.

I'd personally move a lot of "write" related stuff off the SSD to also improve its life, eg temp directory (stick on a RAM disk if you have enough RAM).
